ATHENS AND SOUNION

Our private tours are designed around you. We work together to make sure you see the highlights of Athens and the cost while focusing on the options that most interest you.

For instance, you may want to spend time at the Archaeological Museum and skip shopping or vice versa.

From metropolis to the coast the Athens-Sounion Tour is a grand introduction to Greece. Your first point on the tour is Philopappus hill where, surrounded by olive trees, you have a sweeping view of Athens and a magnificent view of the Acropolis.

Next we’ll stop at the entrance to the Acropolis. According to your preference you can tour the Parthenon, the Acropolis Museum, the Temple of Athena Nike and other fascinating and historic sites on the ‘Sacred Rock’ overlooking the city of Athens.

Entrance fee for the Acropolis is 12 Euros per person with access to five other archaeological sites: the Dionysus theatre, the stills of Olympian Zeus, the Roman Agora, the Greek Agora and the Keramikos.

As we tour Athens we’ll see The Academy, the University, and the National Library. The Marathon Man, across from the Hilton Hotel, is made entirely of fiberglass, was build in memory of the Greek soldier Phidippides. He ran from the town of Marathon to Athens (26 miles) to announce the defeat of the Persons. At the end of his run he shouted “NENIKIKAMEN!”, ancient Greek which meant “We Won!”. As soon as he shouted the victory he collapsed in death of exhaustion.

The Changing of the Guards at the Presidential Palace is world known. We’ll stop there on the hour to watch this disciplined tradition. If you tour on Sunday, you’ll see the full regimental march. Across from the Presidential Palace are the National Gardens where Athenians walk and relax during hot summer days. This area is called Herodou Atticou and one of the most exclusive real estate areas of Athens.

Next we’ll pass through Kolonaki,  where Athenians gather for coffee and conversation in the cafes. This district as some of the best fashion shopping. Through the narrow streets we’ll go on to Lycabettus hill .

Our final Athens destination is the fantastic shopping area of Plaka. The name comes from a large stone slab found near the church of St. George of Alexandria
After our sweeping tour of Athens we’ll head to the outskirts toward the coastline and Cape Sounion on a beautiful countryside tour.

We’ll stop at Lake Vouliagmeni which is just above sea level at 40 cm. If you like, you can test the waters which remain at 24 degrees Celsius year round. The water is known to have healing properties and Athenians swim here all year round.

Our final destination is Cape Sounion where you experience the Greek coastline in all of its splendour. Depending on the time of year we’ll watch the sunset and then return.
